Meili Li
Meili Li is the first Chinese countertenor, and is quickly garnering attention worldwide. Meili studied with Michael Chance at the Royal Academy of Music and completed his opera singing studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Yvonne Kenny. Li is the winner of the Farinelli Prize at the 2016 London Handel Festival Singing Competition.
Since then, he has been engaged in major opera houses and international festivals. He sang Spirito in Orfeo at the Royal Opera House, Astron in The Ice Break at Birmingham Opera Company, Oberon in A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Hungarian State Opera, Marco Fabio in Lucio Papirio at the London Handel Festival, the title role in Orfeo at the Beijing Music Festival, Cover Cherubino in Figaro Gets a Divorce at Welsh National Opera, Cover Linceo in Hipermestra at the Glyndebourne Festival, and the title role in Handel's Giustino at Theater an der Wien.
Meili has recently sung the title role in Handel's Giustino at Theater an der Wien and made his debut at the Handel Festival in Karlsruhe as Alessandro in Tolomeo. Meili Li appeared as Ruggiero in Handel's Alcina at the Hamburg Chamber Opera and as Alcasto in Argenore at Theater Münster. At Theater Lübeck he sang the title role in Handel's Tolomeo, and in 2024 he appeared as Licida in Irish National Opera's acclaimed Vivaldi L'Olimpiade.
