Paul Guhkoe Song - Helden Baritone

Korean dramatic baritone Paul Gukhoe Song's recent and upcoming performances include BARITONE SOLO Carmina Burana at the Liederhalle Stuttgart and the Meistersingerhall München, DER HOLLÄNDER  Der Fliegende Holländer and KASPAR Der Freischütz at the Felsenbühne Rathen, RIGOLETTO at the Luisenfestspiele, Wunsiedel and TONIO i Pagliacci at Den Jyske, Danish National Opera. 

His repertoire includes GUGLIELMO Le Villi, PIZZARO Fidelio and PETER Hänsel und Gretel and LORD RUTHWEN Der Vampyr (Marschner), ESCAMILLO Carmen, MARCELLO La Boheme, GERMONT La Traviata, RENATO Un Ballo in Maschera, RODRIGO Don Carlo, GRAND PRETRE Samson et Dalila, ILL Der Besuch der alten Dame (Gottfried von Einem), FREIEDRICH Das Liebesverbot (Wagner) and LEPORELLO Don Giovanni.

He won 1st prize at the KBS Korea Broadcasting System Singing Competition 2006 in Seoul, 2nd prize at the 12th Concurso Internacional de Canto de Bilbao 2008 and 1st prize at the 26 ̊ Concorso Internazionale di Canto Lirico «Ismaele Voltolini» 2009. He also won the Passau International Singing Competition in Passau, he won the Marcello Giordani International Singing Competition in Sicily, he won the 28th International Singing Competition Maria Caniglia in Sulmona and he won the fourth Madama Butterfly International Singing Competition in Nagasaki, Japan.

Paul Gukhoe Song was born in Seoul. He started his studies in 1999 with Prof. Senghyoun Ko, Prof. Hyup You and Prof. Sukil Park at Hanyang University in Seoul and graduated in 2004 with a Bachelor of Music. In 2002, during his studies, he sang the role of GUGLIELMO in Mozart's Cosi fan tutte. From 2007-09 he studied with Prof. Rudolf Piernay at the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts. 

In 2009 he sang at the Gala Lirica in Bilbao on the tenth anniversary of Alfredo Kraus' death, in 2011 he sang MARCELLO La Bohème at the Pfalztheater in Kaiserslautern and in 2012 he joined the ensemble at the Landesbühnen Sachsen, Radebeul, Dresden.
