Per Bach Nissen - Bass

In the 2024/25 season, Danish bass Per Bach Nissen makes his debut at the Volksoper Wien as KING RENE Iolanta, he performs as BASS SOLO with the Oxford Philharmonic in St. Pauls in London, he returns to The Royal Danish Opera, Copenhagen as JENS GRAND in Heise’s Drot’s Og Marsk and HANS FOLTZ Die Meistersinger, and he makes his debut at Buxton Festival Opera singing THE GHOST in Thomas' Hamlet.

In 2022-23 Per sang WIRT in Schreker’s Der Schatzgräber at Opera National du Rhin and two roles for Salzburg State Theatre and Mozarteum Orchestra, KING RENE Iolanta and KAISER in the World premiere of Des Kaisers Neue Walzer by Alma Deutscher.

His role-debut as FASOLT Das Rheingold was at Mupa, Budapest under Maestro Adam Fischer in 2019 (DVD), and in 2018 he made his critically acclaimed debut at Bregenzer Festspiele as KARDINAL CAMILLO in Goldschmidt’s Beatrice Cenci under the baton of Johannes Debus (DVD).

Further engagements included FAFNER Siegfried & Das Rheingold under Sebastian Weigle at Frankfurt Opera, GREMIN Eugene Onegin at Komische Oper under Henrik Nánási, POLICE CHIEF Lady Macbeth from Mtsensk at ENO under Mark Wigglesworth and IL RE Aida at Malmö Opera under Leif Segerstam.

He returned to the Royal Danish Opera in the 21-22 season as SAGRESTANO Tosca where he has performed every season in the last decade including BARTOLO Barbiere di Siviglia, JERONIMUS in Carl Nielsen’s Maskarade, TOMBEAU in Amir Tafreshipour’s The Doll Behind the Curtain (Naxos), ZUNIGA Carmen and among others. Per sang ZUNIGA with Den Jyske, Danish National Opera and has performed with the 5 Danish Symphony Orchestras.

From 2012-15 Per was in the ensemble at Staatstheater Hannover where roles included BORIS Lady Macbeth from Mtsensk, POGNER Die Meistersinger, CHEREA in Glanert’s Caligula, GREMIN Eugene Onegin, SARASTRO Die Zauberflöte, GRAN INQUISITORE Don Carlo, THESEUS Midsummer Night’s Dream, SAM & TOM Ballo in Maschera, and COMMENDATTORE Don Giovanni.

During this period, he also sang ROCCO Fidelio at Michigan Opera, USA, OSMIN Die Entführung aus dem Serail at Philadelphia Opera, USA and Teatro di Mario di Monaco, Treviso; HAGEN in "The Copenhagen Ring 2013", BORIS Lady Macbeth from Mtsensk and GRAN INQUISITORE Don Carlo at Theater Lubeck, and BARTOLO Nozze di Figaro with Opera Zuid at The Concertgebouw, Amsterdam.

Per was ensemble member at Augsburg State Theater and Mecklenburg State Opera from 2005 to 2011, where his highlights included RAIMONDO Lucia di Lammermoor, FERRANDO Il Trovatore, LOTHARIO Mignon, COLLINE La Boheme, BASILIO Barbiere, VAN BETT Zar und Zimmermann, SARASTRO Zauberflöte and GOLDHANDLER Cardillac.

Future engagements include reprising the role of BARTOLO Barbiere di Siviglia at Theater Nordhausen, and a return to the Royal Danish Opera, Copenhagen.
