Rebecca Barry - Mezzo-Soprano
Rebecca Barry’s current and recent highlights include LOLA Cavalleria Rusticana for West Green House Opera, KATE The Pirates of Penzance in Simon Butteriss’ production at the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival, and CHERUBINO The Marriage of Figaro & TISBE La Cenerentola at the New Generation Festival in Florence, Italy.
Rebecca's operatic debut was as WITNESS 3 in the world premiere of David Blake and Keith Warner’s Icarus at the Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte in Montepulciano, Italy.
Rebecca is a dynamic and versatile mezzo-soprano from Manchester, UK. A graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), she studied under the renowned dramatic soprano Jane Irwin, with the generous support of the D’Oyly Carte Trust and Help Musicians UK.
During her time at RNCM, Rebecca sang many roles, including HANSEL Hansel and Gretel, MADAME DE LA HALTIERE Cendrillon, and IRENE Theodora, directed by John Ramster. Her impressive achievements at RNCM also include being awarded the prestigious Annie Ridyard Scholarship for Mezzo-Sopranos, winning The James Martin Oncken Song Prize, and representing the RNCM in the Bruce Millar Gulliver Opera Prize at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
At the Grange Festival, Rebecca covered and performed ROSINA Il Barbiere di Siviglia, HERMIA Midsummer Night's Dream, PHOEBE The Yeomen of the Guard, and POLINA Pique Dame.
On the concert stage, Rebecca has captivated audiences as a soloist in performances such as Mozart Requiem and Bach Magnificat at St. John's Smith Square with the London Mozart Players, Elgar’s Sea Pictures with the Worthing Symphony Orchestra, and Haydn Nelson Mass with the Royal Northern Sinfonia at Sage Gateshead.
She also had the honour of performing Duruflé Requiem with the Academy Choir Wimbledon under the baton of Matthew Best. Rebecca continues to refine her craft under the guidance of Gundula Hintz.
