Zofia Hanna - Mezzo-Soprano

 

The 2025/26 Season sees Mezzo-Soprano Zofia Hanna back at Opera Ballet Vlaanderen singing the role of BLUMENMÄDCHEN in Parsifal, which she will also sing in the summer 2026 at the Vienna Festspiele.

Zofia won the 3rd International “Toscanini” Competition in Brescia, she studied at the Royal Conservatory of Flanders in Antwerp and the Conservatory of Amsterdam, and she was a finalist for the 2024 Wagner Competition - Carole Rees Awards in London.

She is an alumna of the Dutch National Opera Academy, where she sung roles including DONNA ELVIRA Don Giovanni, the title role of Massenet’s CENDRILLON, the lead role CLARA in The Mother of Black-Winged Dreams by Hanna Kulenty and GERTRUD Hänsel und Gretel. She sang  CHERUBINO, DORABELLA, and Massenet’s CHARLOTTE in concert at the Concertgebouw and Dutch National Opera, where she was also invited to sing the role of MADRIGALIST in Puccini's Manon Lescaut.

At Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, Zofia recently performed KAROLKA in Janacek’s Jenufa and WOOD SPRITE in their new production of Rusalka. She performed MERCEDES Carmen around Belgium and the Netherlands as well as LADY MACBETH in a new children's version of Verdi’s Macbeth by Mathias Coppens for Opera Ballet Vlaanderen. She joined the Alvarez Young Artist program at Garsington Opera in 2019 where she worked with conductors Jac van Steen, Justin Doyle, Laurence Cummings and directors Paul Curran and Martin Duncan.

Further engagements have been MARTHE, SCHULD and MARIA in Schumann's Faust under the baton of Philippe Herreweghe for Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, ALISA Lucia di LammermoorFLORA La TraviataLA FRUGOLA in Il Tabarro for Instant Opera and she toured Europe with Vake Poes, a theatre work by Lisaboa Houbrechts, singing arias from Bach’s Johannes- and Mattheus Passions for La Geste & Opera Ballet Vlaanderen.

Most recently, Zofia has been touring in a new theatre production "Vake Poes", singing excerpts of Bach's Johannes Passion, in various cities (o.a. Opera Ghent, Opera de Lille, ITA, Théatre de la Ville Paris) in Europe. ​​

Future engagements include recording a new song cycle written by Mathias Coppens, which is part of a recital program "A Few Words on the Soul" that she will perform together with Mathias in various cities in Europe.
